Tue, 17 October 2006 The first time I heard Blue by Lijie, I knew she was someone to be reckoned with and, more importantly, someone to listen to.What compelled me to play her songs multiple times wasn't easy for me to define. Her voice had something to do with it, since I'm a sucker for an alto with a decent range, but it was more than that. Ultimately I decided what set her apart was just the pure honesty of her delivery. Sometimes we'll say of a singer that she "owns" the song, but I think these songs own Lijie. You can't listen to them without knowing her struggles, her hopes, her desires, and even the humor that all fit together in one marvelous person. After you listen you'll certainly want to learn more about Lijie, and you can do that both on her web site and on her MySpace site. I'm guessing Lijie could have done just about anything she wanted to in life, and I for one am very glad she wanted to be an artist. Comments[1] |
You were able to put in words what I have been trying to figure out about Lijie's music for a while. Every song grabs you and pulls you in. In fact the first time I listened to her album "Roam", I listened to every song. Then continued to replay the whole album at least 4 more times after that.
It seems that if I listen to one song I have to listen to the whole album. It would be like trying to watch a 30min clip of a movie. It doesnt make much sense to only watch a small part. Lijie's album forces you to listen to the whole thing and in no way is that a bad thing. Every song on her album is worth listening. Its not like other albums you buy, were maybe 50-75% of the songs on it are good. With "Roam", every song is superb and a master piece. If you still have not listened to her music, you are surely missing out.
Great Podcast, I will keep an eye on this site for other great artist.
